Hotel Review
The Vicarage, Cranage, Cheshire
The Vicarage sits on the northern edge of Holmes Chapel, a small east Cheshire town that found unexpected fame among teen pop fans a few years back, when it was revealed to be the home town of a certain Harry Styles. The boy may have moved on but The Vicarage remains, a grade ll-listed 17th-century building that's now enjoying new life as a modern country inn. In 2015, it was taken over by Flat Cap Hotels, a local, family-run venture, who gave the dilapidated interiors a major makeover, adding contemporary design features to the restored historic bones. The end result is a popular haunt for locals and tourists alike, with attractively designed public spaces, cut-above pub grub and 26 comfortable bedrooms

Bar staff sometimes add a northern twist to a classic cocktail - a Manhattan with a dash of Vimto becomes a Manc-hattan. The Vicarage burger gets a big thumbs up, as do the hot, crispy chips (made from local potatoes) that come with it.
The Riverside and Courtyard Terrace: British classics, Asian and Mediterranean influences, rustic yet contemporary surroundings. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains start at £14.
