Hotel Review
Fosshotel Reykjavík, Iceland
A skyscraper by Reykjavik standards, this 320-room hotel is the city's largest, and part of Iceland's most successful chain. Don't hold that against it, though - the décor is more in line with a boutique property, service is friendly and personal and the restaurant serves plenty of Icelandic produce. There's also a fun beer garden with a well-stocked list of local drinks, plus a decent-sized gym. Simply decorated with photographs of the country's spectacular natural scenery, bedrooms are comfortable and lots on the upper floors have knockout views of the city and beyond, inviting you to explore. Book a tour in reception or make the most of the hotel's central location to set out on foot for Reykjavik's excellent museums, bars and geothermal swimming pools.

Rooms
Consider paying extra for a Tower View Room, so you can wake each morning to the dazzling sight of the Faxaflói Bay, snow-capped mountains looming in the distance. The beds are brilliantly comfy, laid with pristine white linens and tactile throw-over blankets. Each room has a mini-fridge - it's well worth bringing a few drinks and snacks to put in it, as Iceland is expensive.

Food & Drink
Though guests serve themselves, restaurant staff are still keen to provide good service; checking that you're enjoying your food and making recommendations from the wine list. We love the flavourful vegetable sides and salads on offer at Haust's dinner buffet - ranging from chargrilled asparagus to pickled celeriac carpaccio.
