WHAT WE LOVE...

Sink into sumptuous Chesterfield sofas in the beautifully panelled lounge at this three-star country house hotel, once the home of geologist Charles Lyell, a friend of Charles Darwin. A huge terrace, which extends the length of the house and overlooks the gardens, is perfect for drinks al fresco in summer. An attractive orangery is ideal for dinner a deux. The food is excellent and eclectic dishes such as a deconstructed Hob Nob dessert are creatively produced. There are eight acres of grounds for dogs and children to romp around in and explore, and an indoor heated swimming pool for family frolics and fun. The 40 bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes, the decor inspired by the forest and nature outside.
