Hotel Review
The Dial House, Reepham, Norfolk
This mellow Georgian mansion, named because of the ornamental sun-dial over its front door, offers a friendly welcome and plenty of quirks. All the furnishings and collectables in the open-plan restaurants are for sale, and the rooms are individually decorated to reflect Georgian themes of travel, exploration and adventure. Chef and owner, Andrew Jones, oversees the kitchen, which offers set price and a la carte menus - with meat dishes cooked in a charcoal oven. In-room spa treatments are available and this guesthouse is an excellent base for touring Norfolk's coast and countryside on foot, by car or by bicycle.
THE DETAILS
Location
This stand-out, eight-bedroom base is in Reepham, a sleepy market town in rural Norfolk with small, independent shops (including a butchers, florist and grocers) and a medieval, flint-built church.
Reepham is a quiet, traditional town, a half hour's drive from Norwich, and 35 minutes from the Norfolk coast at Cromer or Sheringham.
By car: London and Birmingham are about 3 hours from the hotel. Cambridge is 1 hour 30 mins. There is free public parking by the hotel.
By train: London Liverpool Street to Norwich takes just under 2 hours. The station is a 30-minute taxi ride from the hotel. thetrainline.com
Style & Character
With its whimsical, imaginatively themed rooms and seductive bathrooms, The Dial House is perfect for romantic couples. There's even a "secret" dining room behind a revolving book case, and public toilets built of wood from a dismantled squash court.
Service & Facilities
We love that Hannah Springham and Andrew Jones, originally from Norfolk, moved back home to take on The Dial House in 2018.

Rooms
Glamorous Italian Palace - with a free-standing bath at the foot of its decadently swagged bed - is our favourite room. We also love the glass cabinet displays of shells and fossils in "Natural History", a cosy double with bold wallpaper depicting birds and animals.
Natural History, The Orient, China, Africa, Parisian Garrett, Days of the Raj, The Print Room, The Italian Palace
Facilities include: marble bathroom with bath tub, drench shower, luxury toiletries, sound system and vinyl player, TV, fridge containing fresh milk, water, tea and coffee facilities
Food & Drink
The restaurant uses organic produce grown by local school children, plus free-range eggs from their school hens, delivered weekly on Thursdays. Our favourite dish is dry aged pork collar cooked in the charcoal-fuelled Bertha oven, served with watercress, roast shallot and a choice of sauce.
The Dial House: Seasonal set menu, a la carte, small plates, BBQ meats, Sunday roasts, kids menu. Dinner Weds-Sat, Lunch Weds-Sun, bed and breakfast available daily. Mains from £14.
