WHAT WE LOVE...

A five-minute walk from the long flat sands of Alnmouth beach, and on the seaside village's main street, St Valery offers a stylish, adults-only B&B that's close to the sea without being amongst the crowds. The interiors of the tall Victorian villa have been subtly modernised with pale colours, rugs on stripped-wood floors and a mix of vintage and Scandi-style furnishings while keeping original features of fireplaces and cornicing. Bedrooms share the same well-judged style but with different details. Overall, the feeling is of relaxed calm which likely also down to owner Harvey's laidback charm. Breakfast has a brunch-style choice of cooked items, plus there's an honesty bar and decking at the rear.

Style & Character

People who want to stay near the sea but in a stylish base with spoiling touches and without children will love it here. We appreciated the mix of sepia photographs and modern art - plus the subtle scent of expensive candles.

Time to confess - we loved the complimentary tea and cake in the afternoon.
