WHAT WE LOVE...

This is a hotel of two halves: a graceful, Grade II-listed house connected to a large modern extension, with a high reception atrium. The hotel has a first-rate collection of British art, including pieces by LS Lowry and Beryl Cook and there's a broad landscaped garden at the rear of the property, perfect for a pleasant stroll. Sudbury features two restaurants, one of which specialises in afternoon tea. Sat on the edge of a market town, it's well placed for exploring the local countryside.

Couples looking for a quiet night away with good food, or road-tripping visitors in search of an enjoyable pit stop will like it here. The garden to the rear with its pathways and large magnolia tree helps create a sense of calm.

Rooms

We love the arty touches in the suites: plenty of thought has gone into the choice of sculptures, antiques and elegant furniture. The Deluxe Suite (also known as Suite 57) is a stunner, with its own staircase, a separate lounge, bags of space and a rolltop bath.

Comfortable, Double or Twin, Family Room, Junior Suite, Deluxe Suite
Facilities include: Tea- and coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, ensuite bathroom with bath and overhead shower.

Food & Drink

Magnolia serves good food without taking itself too seriously - alongside the main menu it also does a range of wood-fired pizzas. When dessert rolls around, is there anything more indulgent than a strawberry and Pimm's trifle? Just the thing for a summer's evening.

The Magnolia: Modern European brasserie with terrace for alfresco dining, seasonal menu. Small plates, sandwiches, burgers, pizza. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mains from £14.
Restaurant 56: Traditional setting and garden lounge. Serves afternoon tea and private dining for weddings and special events. Afternoon tea from £20 per person.
