Hotel Review
No. 6 The Square, Buxton, Peak District
First-time visitors to Buxton are often surprised to discover what an interesting and attractive town it is. Its spa heritage dates back to Roman times, there's a lively cultural scene, and the hilly, leafy streets are lined with handsome Georgian and Victorian buildings. Among its star attractions are the Crescent (an elegant 18th-century terrace, recently restored and reopened as a luxury hotel and spa) and the lovely Opera House (designed by famed theatre architect Frank Matcham). Perfectly placed in between the two, you'll find No 6 The Square, a genteel little tea room with bedrooms above. There's history and character aplenty here and a generous dollop of good looks: it's set in a mellow-stoned Georgian building, adorned with hanging baskets outside and elegantly decorated within.

Rooms
The mattresses are extremely comfortable and the pretty floral jugs of fresh flowers on the mantelpiece are a nice touch. Our favourite rooms are Opera House and Pavilion Gardens - light, bright and with the best views; the latter has a well-stocked bookcase, too.
