WHAT WE LOVE...

Henrietta House spreads over a number of townhouses on a beautiful, gently-curving Georgian terrace. It's a peaceful spot, while the bustling centre of Bath is just five minutes' stroll away. This large bed and breakfast comes in two very different parts. The main wing, whose three interconnected, five-storey houses include the reception and other public areas plus two-thirds of the 66 bedrooms, has been given a costly makeover in a rather snazzy Art Deco style. The other bedrooms fill a pair of houses a few doors along the street. While the service is good, this is a managed hotel, so service won't be as personal as in Bath's owner-run B&Bs.

THE DETAILS

Location

We love the short walk into the centre of town via Pulteney Bridge - built in 1774, it has skinny shops on both of its sides.

Some of Bath's most famous landmarks, such as the Roman Baths, are a five-minute walk away.
By car: around 45 minutes from Bristol, 2 hours 30 minutes from London and 3 hours 30 minutes from Manchester. There is parking available at £12 per day.
By train: there are direct services to Bath Spa from Bristol Temple Meads (11 minutes), Cardiff Central (1 hour 5 minutes) and London Paddington (1 hour 15 minutes). The hotel is around a 12-minute walk from Bath Spa station. thetrainline.com

Style & Character

Henrietta House suits those looking for a quiet yet central place to stay in Bath in elegant Georgian surroundings, and don't need a full range of hotel facilities. The hotel bar is a highlight - backdropped by a wall of mirrors, Henrietta House's ritziest-looking feature would not look out of place in London's Savoy Hotel.

Service & Facilities

There are lifts in both parts of the property - something of a rarity for bed and breakfasts in Bath set in Georgian buildings.

  • Bar
  • Family rooms
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Parking (£12 per day)

Rooms

The hotel has good amenities: there's tea and coffee-making facilities and a minibar in all rooms. We especially like the Premium rooms in the newly-refurbished wing with their Art Deco styling and striking wallpaper - perhaps of a parrot-dotted forest.

Individual, Traditional Cozy Small, Boutique Cozy Small, Standard, Superior, Hot Tub, Private Garden, Premium rooms, Junior, Top Floor suites
Facilities include: queen bed, ensuite bathroom with shower, TV, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee-making facilities

Food & Drink

The breakfast area on the ground floor, with dark wood panelling, marble fireplaces and chandeliers, is spacious and attractive. The full English - free-range fried eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms - is a sizeable plateful that keeps you going for much of the day.

Breakfast: continental and cooked options. Open daily 8-10.30am.
Bar: elegant, old-school decor. Open daily noon 'til midnight.
