Hotel Review
Moxy Miami South Beach, Miami, USA
Moxy is one of Marriott's spin-off brands, focusing on a younger, more adventurous market which appreciates good design and facilities, but isn't bothered about more traditional touches such as bellboys or room service. This latest, 202-room offering is positioned in a prime spot on Washington Avenue, just a few minutes' walk from the beach and Ocean Drive. There are nods to the city's Latin American influences in the lobby, from a taqueria to artwork by a local street artist. A 72ft pool sits on the second floor, while on the eighth, there's a rooftop terrace with a 360-degree panoramic view, featuring cabana-style seating, daybeds, a bar, and an outdoor screen for movie nights. Food and drink are amply catered for, from the lobby taco stand Los Buenos, to the pool-adjacent Serena restaurant serving an enticing menu of shareable dishes and The Upside rooftop bar. There is also a daily programme of events, from daily morning workouts to mezcal tastings and silent disco beach cleanups.
THE DETAILS
Location
While there are plenty of Art Deco hotels scattered about the area, you should check out the Miami Beach Post Office at 13th street; constructed in 1937, it features a tall, circular lobby with colourful murals by artist Charles Hardman above gold-coloured post boxes.
Located just off Ocean Drive, you have your pick of the beaches. Versace Mansion is a short walk away, as is the Botanical Garden.
By plane: direct flights from London to Miami International take 10 hours. The hotel is a 25-minute drive from the airport. Parking costs $42 per day. skyscanner.net
